The BitWise voice chat programming and testing has continued to go extremely well. Additional rounds of testing helped track down some additional bugs, as well as refined the featureset somewhat. Of about 8 tests so far, half of them have been better than telephone quality, with the other half having slight lag, but within acceptable limits (some lag is to be expected). I still believe that BitWise voice chat is going to exceed Skype's quality, but the final verdict will, of course, not be made by me, but by the users.
Look for an alpha release early or mid week next week (no later than Wednesday). I cannot wait to have many people try it and report back, not only with comments on the performance but also ways that it can be improved. Check back here, to the BitWise forums or to the BitWise Site for an alpha release announcement.
In other related news, Linux has been updated to use the latest wxWidgets sources. A new alpha release is the perfect time for testing 8 weeks of new wx-code!
Get your testing engines ready; I'll definitely be looking for all the help, comments, feedback, constructive criticism, etc. that I can get on the voice chat!
All this talk about better quality then the phone; I don't need that, though I am sure other users will enjoy that. :D
I would help test the linux version but I don't get internet in linux :(
