Nature Boy

As many of you probably know, this weekend was Labor Day here in the US. For the first time in a many years, I actually participated in Labor Day this year by taking time off, which isn't always easy for the "self-employed" entrepreneur (or as a student not too many years ago). As much as I like my work, being away from it does wonders sometimes, especially when the time off takes you somewhere far outside of your normal environment.

Today I spent part of the afternoon with a friend at a nearby state park, wading/hiking through the creek/stream/river (depending on your definition). Even though the water was down and the humidity was high, it was nonetheless exciting to watch the schools of fish, avoid the crawdads, look for fossils and scurry along fallen trees. The sun on your back and the beauty and peace of the forest is enough to make you forget about computers, the Internet, servers, and even BitWise.

Luckily, the killer cicada that was dive-bombing me failed to bring me down (despite the rumors that my friend heard about such deadly attacks.... ha!) and I returned unharmed other than a few scatches and a new bug bite. Oh, and a renewed spirit and energy, too. Good thing, because there is plenty of work to be done--but somehow with the memory of the sun shining through the trees to the bottom of the water I can't help but smile as I start up again.
