As mentioned in my sidebar, one of my businesses is OxONet, a web hosting and design company now in its sixth year. I have been asked why I don't post much about it, and it's mostly because it's a pretty routine business by now; I doubt anyone wants to hear "I sent out OxONet invoices today" or "Some people from North Dakota opened an account today." Every once in a while, though, something exciting does happen, like today.
A few weeks ago, the local Chamber of Commerce approached us for a bid to redesign their web site, which was created by someone who has left the area and no longer around for maintenance or support. We found out today that the board decided to accept our bid, and we will begin working on the site next week. Naturally, this all happens when we're all really busy, but I've always thrived on activity and am usually more productive when I'm insanely overly busy anyway. Go figure.
Of course, then I remember that I'm in the service business, and one must service when and where service is needed. Comes with the territory. My "soapbox of the day" advice to any budding entrepreneurs out there thinking of going into a service business: your working life is at the mercy of the whims of your clients, and sometimes, they all whim together.
On the other hand, it's better than them never whimming at all... (usage of the word "whimming" is allowed on the 1st Friday after a solstice or equinox in years whose digits sum to 6 and are cleanly divisble by 4.... HA!)
Happy weekend everyone.
