I have returned alive and well from England. A good time was had by all, the wedding was nice and I really like Sian's groom. He seems like a nice guy and I'm sure he'll treat my 2nd cousin well. It was nice to visit with family and see everyone that I haven't seen in a long time (or at all--Claire, Sian's older sister, now has 3 girls of her own!).
I am glad to see that BitWise can survive without me, I knew it could. I didn't even worry about it... much. :) BitWise aside, detaching from the Internet was actually pretty painless; a nice relief from the constant barrage of information. "Catching up" has even proven to be pretty easy, excluding the wxWidgets lists. Almost 1500 messages arrived during the past week. Those will take a while to sort out, but as is the case when they don't pile up, I don't read them all, since so many are about topics I'm not interested in and/or have no knowledge.
These next two days I have a non-related conference to attend, so I'll be around but still with less presence than usual.
To close: I learned that aluminium is the British spelling of aluminum, complete with its own unique pronunciation.
Glad you enjoyed your trip :)
I'm sure someday I'll get to the point where being without internet is blissful, but I'm afraid it won't be anytime soon.
Interesting distinctions between British English and American English.
Glad you enjoyed your downtime Kevin. Too much of anything (even the Internet)can be a bad thing. I try to go to my little place in the country 1-2 times a month and BBQ/picnic there. No electricity, no phones, no nothing. Just fresh air, good food, lots of wild critters, and my family.
funny, I've been coming to the Blog since the 18th but haven't seen an update untill today. Should hit refresh in the browser... I even know somthing had been posted.
Time away from the computer is great, I have a 2 week vacation at the begining of summer every year. Live in a family camper on our 1500 acre ranch. Can't say what will happen when I start college though.
yes, this page is cached. kevin must fix that by setting the expiry date to somewhere in the year 2003 :P ..that way it will always load up fresh
What exactly is being cached, and where? I'm confused. What must I set?
the entire front page is cached. so when it is loaded, it loads the old version. of course, this can be overwritten by local browser settings (something like "force page to download" ..i dont remember exact setting) ..the real solution is to put, on server side: (as taken from: http://www.htmlhelp.com/reference/html40/head/meta.html) ...if u use that date, it will always reload the page. of course you could use anything prior to october 24, 2004 :P
put that in the part :P
grrr, the formatting took it out..let see if i can fix it up
..the real solution is to put, on server side: <META HTTP-EQUIV=Expires CONTENT="Sun, 22 Mar 1998 16:18:35 GMT"> .....
hope that works
grr, weird how "lt" didnt convert to the symbol, but "gt" did ..i tried, GL kevin :D
