I have some very exciting news to announce: I have recently joined Julian Smart, original founder of the wxWidgets C++ GUI framework, as a co-author of the new wxWidgets book to be released next year by Prentice Hall. I will be contributing chapters on sockets, data structures, installing wxWidgets and creating cross-platform projects. It is an honor to contribute to this book alongside Julian and other core wxWidgets developers. This truly is an amazing opportunity for me as a developer and writer to share some of the knowledge I have gained working on BitWise and wxWidgets to benefit other developers.
This book will be an excellent resource for anyone looking to begin using wxWidgets to develop applications on Windows, Linux and OS X. I have begun writing material, and have taken a very hands-on practical approach, providing not only core functionality but insights where possible. The sockets chapter in particular already has many gems that would have saved my countless hours of fruitless debugging and frustration. Not that I know anything about sockets, of course, it's not like BitWise uses them at all... ;)
More news to come as the book gets closer to publication, and of course I'll probably have things to say about it as time goes on, such as, "Where did I think I would have the time to write material for a book?" :)
I am glad, on your behalf, Kevin.
That you have found some guy that is into the same development area as you are.
When two heads get together it will be better than a lonely one.
It is also called 'brainstorming' - with nice english expression.
Wish you good luck, with your co-work with Julian.
C++ is a very effective programming language - I wish I had time to learnit, too.
But all can not do the same, some poor guys have to stick to other things
like HTML and PHP languages

wow, thats truly amazing...writing a book. i can now imagine you being a famous computer author...really!
you know, i've always wondered where these people come from, the ones that write the books. i guess its just the average joe like you who doesnt have any time on his hand ;-)
good luck with the book. not likely i will buy a copy, since i dont use widgets...but maybe when i see it at a store i will read a chapter of yours. should be interesting.
Thanks for the well-wishes.
Indeed, I do believe I am a pretty good writer, though at this time I can't see authoring a whole book by myself. This is such a wonderful opportunity because it is only part of a book, so I can learn the processes without being wholly responsible.
Maybe we can have a contest after the book is out and the winner will get a free autographed copy of the book. :)
And... I'm not sure if I should be offended or not by being called an "average Joe." ;) Or maybe it was a backhanded compliment... hmm... nah I know what you mean. :)
