I was reading an article the other day that there is growing backlash against "Happy Holidays;" that political correctness has gone too far and there is nothing harmful, insensitive or worthy of censorship in "Merry Christmas." I definitely agree. Christmas may be at its root a Christian holiday, but the spirit of Christmas is something everyone can celebrate: times with friends and family looking forward to the New Year, taking time off from work, gift-giving, enjoying the 20 inches of snow (no joke!), cookies and hot chocolate, etc.
I wish you all a very Merry Christmas, and for those of you traveling, safe travels!
here in the UK we've gone way to PC about Chrimbo.
County Councils sending out cards saying things like "Seasons Greetings" and "Festive Fun" or referring to the lights around towns as "Seasonal Illumination"- Just as long as the "C" word is not mentioned incase it offends an "Ethnic minority"
All crap like that does is build up resentment against the same people the councils are trying to protect and you know full well, its stupid white men/women who thought about banning the word "Christmas" in the first place.
So a group ends up with the majority cursing them for thoughts and actions that weren't even voiced by them in the first place...it could almost make a conspiracy theory if I knew what the hell I was talking about...
Kevin you got 20" of snow? no fare I have zero.
as for the stupid "C" word, I hear a lot of complaints about it but no one complaining. (I mean that people say it could offend these groups, but as for people being actually being offended I don't know.)
It's a shame that a few vocal, rude, thoughtless people are allowed to bully the entire Christian religion through the secular press. Although Christianity is one of the world's great religions, they attempt to make us feel like second class citizens in our own land. Oh well, I guess all we can do is turn the other cheek and laugh it off! :)
Merry Christmas Kevin and all BitWise users!
The problem lies in the abuse of such organizations (like Christianity) that use widely recognized secular holidays (Modern Christmas--as it is known--is secular, period) to promote their cause by caballing. While I agree that being PC ought to be kept in check, so should these fanatical groups. Just as Bob says that a few vocal people are "allowed to bully the entire Christian religion" so do a few vocal Christians. The stink American fundamentalist Christians had with people celebrating Halloween because it fell on a Sunday this year was just as--if not more--absurd.
...and with that, Happy Holidays to you all. I hope you enjoy(ed) yours with friends and family. I did =)
