On October 8th, I announced my participation in the first-ever wxWidgets book, being chiefly authored by Julian Smart, creator of wxWidgets. I haven't really said much about it since then, so I thought I'd briefly write about it again. It could have something to do with my using this week between the holidays to wrap up my chapters with finish touches and a last round of significant revisions. :)
I have all of my four chapters written (sockets, data structures, installing wxWidgets, and project creation) and all of them have been heartily approved by Julian (pending some tweaks and revisions, of course). My chapters are "due" on January 1st (which is a Saturday, I know... I figure I have until the 3rd), the remaining chapters (Julian's) are due February 1st, and then the book is supposed to be turned over to Prentice Hall on March 1st. The publication date is tentatively scheduled for June!
It looks like I will be the only secondary author, although the bad news that goes with that is that I will have to contribute another chapter. I won't complain too much, though, since that way my name stands out more on the front cover without other names to reduce its value. ;) Still on hold for the final word, though.
In any event, wish me luck as we start wrapping it up and getting it ready for submission. This week will [hopefully] be my last big push; everything else from here on out should be shorter bursts of revisions and editing.
Stay tuned later this week or early next week for some announcements about the BitWise user surveys that I posted about 7-10 days ago. :)
