1.0.5 more than an icon makeover

The release of BitWise 1.0.5 today is probably one of the most exciting releases of BitWise in a while. While the new icons are significant and truly an evolutionary step forward, it's important not to overlook the other changes to the client, or the additional Professional Web Services features added since 1.0.4. The Web Services are continually upgraded, and here are three recent major changes:

  • The Who's Online page now shows both the Internet and LAN IP addresses for each user. This can help with tracking direct connection problems and can help locate where users are logged in.
  • Create user and email password has been added as a new way to create user accounts. Previously, accounts were manually created by entering a username and password, but then the information had to be manually conveyed to the user. Now, Professional administrators can create a user by specifying a username and an email address. A randomly created password will be assigned and emailed automatically.
  • Set multiple users' security settings allows you to copy one user's security settings to many other users at once. Previously, the only way to copy security settings was to modify an individual user and copy security settings. Now, you can enter the user whose settings you want to duplicate, check off the users you want to apply the settings to, and click a button.

BitWise IM is always in motion with improved software, web site upgrades, and new Web Services. What will we do next? :)

Lastly, to wrap up a post from a few days ago, almost all of the screenshots throughout the site have been updated to reflect the new icons. A new Themes white paper is also available detailing how to make a theme for version 1.0.5. Enjoy the new version!
