You will see ads in AIM. But you get to choose where!

I don't know if anyone else will find this as amusing as I do, but I find it absolutely hysterical that the latest AIM beta now has a preference so you can choose whether to see ads in your contact list, or in your IM window. Note that there's no option to disable the ads, you just get to choose where you want them. Check it out:

And to think, some businesses use adware for conducting business! Now that's really scary. There are better choices, which of course every BitWise IM user already knows. :)

Wow, that's hilarious. At least they give you a choice. I think it is necessary to have ads in order to make money. Programmers are valuable people, right Kevin? :P Of course, it's great that BitWise is a program that has no ads and hasn't sold out, hope it remains like that forever.

So all the major messengers have ads now, hmm. Personally, I've resorted to hex-editing my msn in order to get rid of the ad, and I don't use the others often enough to care. Yahoo and ICQ are pretty much unused by me now. Hopefully MSN will be the next one that shall be unused by me.

Makes me really glad I don't have the AIM software - I use Miranda for the big networks.

I love the ads that randomly start playing music and video. Those are really great.

Programmers are indeed valuable, but there are other ways to make money than ads! :) I've always sort of thought AIM was an ad for AOL just by its very existance, so why does it need more ads?

What's the old saying? The "Democratic process" can be subjugated by the choices put forth vote on. Well, that wasn't even close, but you get the idea. :)
