A wee bit of plumbing advice

Posted at June 1, 2006 08:19 PM in Personal .

I would like to offer up a bit of free advice for anyone considering a plumbing project:

Do not commence a plumbing project on a national holiday. This is especially true when the plumbing project requires that you shut off the water to your entire house because the thing you're working on (e.g. my bathtub) does not have its own shutoff valve.

This leads to my second bit of [somewhat less useful] advice:

When you build a house, be sure to install shutoff valves on every water-using sink, toilet, tub, etc. That way, if you end up in over your head, at least you have water and aren't filling empty gallon jugs from your neighbor's hose.

All in all, it was definitely a Memorial Day to remember. :)

Can you give me an idea of "where my hot water went?" I was doing laundry today, went to turn on my kitchen tap to do some dishes, and behold, no water was coming out of my hot water tap. Cold tap, cold water. Hot tap, NO WATER!

Everything WAS working fine. So, now what? Some advice from neighbours and "dad's" near and far was that something must have been turned off. After detailed inspection, this is not the case. Perhaps the only clue was that the hot water heater pilot light is out. Clue? My thought is that it was a safety feature that turned off the pilot light as the water level in the water heater was too low. But why??? What can I do to fix this? HELP!
